Underfloor spray foam insulation was completed at this 1940s home in Newstead, Launceston. The property has traditional wooden floors, with reasonable access to the subfloor available from the rear of the house.
A total underfloor area of approximately 163 m² was treated with two 30 mm layers of closed-cell spray foam, creating a combined insulation thickness of approximately 60 mm. The first 30 mm layer established a continuous insulating and air-sealing barrier, followed by a second 30 mm layer to improve thermal performance and coverage. Heatlok closed-cell spray foam was used for the final layer.
The completed installation helps reduce cold draughts, heat loss and cold floor issues commonly experienced in older timber-floored homes. The closed-cell foam also assists with moisture control by limiting the movement of cold, moisture-laden air into the subfloor area and reducing the conditions that can contribute to condensation and dampness.
With both layers applied, the home now benefits from warmer timber floors, improved indoor comfort, better energy efficiency and a more effectively sealed and protected subfloor.
